Alli Abdelal is the founder and designer of luxury British brand RUSKIN, which specialises in sustainable, handcrafted bags made by traditional Italian artisans and Yorkshire weavers. She shares what she is about to pack for a New York work trip.

Preparing for a New York summer is not going to be easy, as it will be so hot, but I’m extremely excited to have a residency there for most of July. We are taking RUSKIN to NoLita in Manhattan, which will mark our 10 years in the industry. I’ve already been told that they like to wear a lot of black in NY so I’m preparing to put our black bags in the window!

I’m a classics woman; the only loud colour I have in my wardrobe are my yellow Onitsuka Tiger trainers – which are coming with me.

My uniform is wide leg trousers or jeans and blazer and my go-to label is Me+Em, which I go back to time and again. It’s the quality, even their basic tees will last forever. I’ll be packing quite a few in whites, blues and browns. I’ll be taking a couple of pairs of sunglasses, a brown pair from Caddis and aviators from Maui Jim.

I’m a fan of Kujten cashmere sweaters and I always board a flight wearing an Herno lightweight down vest. I like simple, clean lines, nothing too flouncy. I’m a masculine shirt rather than a blouse person.

When I pack I try to think of a 3×3 approach – I call it triangle or pyramid dressing, so that everything can be reworn three times in different variations.

I love cashmere scarves – my Rise and Fall oversize wrap is one is the first thing I pack – as it works with everything and makes a great blanket on any long-haul flight. And as well as my trainers, I’ll take some flat sandals from Carel Paris – I gave up on heels a long time ago!

As for cosmetics, I’m a big fan of La Roche Posay and especially their Toleriane range.

Most importantly I’ll be taking my favourite RUSKIN bags – a blue belt bag for my passport and phone and Hopper backpack in leather and tweed.
