What a Carry On! How to pack Like a Pro

Fashion presenter, author and influencer Kat Farmer, aka doesmybumlook40, on her space-saving tips and tricks for a weekend break in the Loire Valley.

‘I recently spent two nights in France on a wine-tasting weekend and had no idea how the weather was going to behave.

‘My heaviest things were a pair of trainers and some flip flops to cover all bases. Everything else were light layers which I swear by, and I made sure everything could mix and match. So, three vests from a great brand called Eleven Loves, two dresses that roll up as small as knickers and don’t crease, from Hansine, in navy and fushia, and my burgundy mohair Hansine cardigan.

‘For toiletries I either decant or raid an old beauty calendar for minis. I took a 15ml Drunk Elephant jelly cleanser, a 15ml retinol serum by Augustine Bader and my Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair.

Kat’s three top travel tips:

  • If you’re taking hand luggage only and going on a budget airline, take a leather holdall rather than a hard case as they are much easier to squish into a crowded overhead locker. John Lewis leather holdall
  • Always travel in your heaviest clothes. I went in my old Zara relaxed crop jeans, which go with any footwear, brown tassel Isabel Marant boots and black leather vintage DVF jacket with a jumper worn as a scarf.

If you can get away with it, avoid washing your hair. Mine is thick and dry – I call them cranial pubes – so I can. It cuts down on the products and tools you need to carry by about half. I wash the morning I travel and pack my mini Living Proof Dry Shampoo tode-frizz if needed.
